dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu araştırma projesi, Akçaabat-Akçakale beldesinin belediyeleşme sürecini ve bu belde belediyesinin ilk belediye başkanı olan Ali Türen Öztürk'ün hayatını ve başarılarını ele almaktadır. Araştırma Öztürk'ün belediye başkanlık yıllarında yörenin yaşamını iyileştirme konusundaki özverisini vurgulamakta, eğitim ve balıkçılık gibi çeşitli sektörleri kapsayan girişimlerini anlatmaktadır. Önemli başarılarına rağmen, Öztürk'ün başkanlık yılları, üç başarılı dönemin ardından seçimi kaybetmesiyle sona bulmuştur. Sonrasında, zarifçe siyasetten emekli olmuş, günümüzde kendi inşaat firmasında inşaat işleriyle uğraşmaya devam etmiştir.
dc.description.abstractThis research Project examines the process of municipalization in the town of Akçaabat-Akçakale and focuses on the life and accomplishments of Ali Türen Öztürk, the first mayor of this town municipality. The research highlights Öztürk's dedication to improving the lives of the local community during his tenure as mayor and discusses his initiatives spanning various sectors, including education and fishing. Despite his notable achievements, Öztürk's mayoral years came to an end when he lost the election following three successful terms. Subsequently, he gracefully retired from politics and continues to engage in construction work through his own construction firm.
