dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractYarımburgaz Mağarası İstanbul’un Başakşehir ilçesinde bulunan, devlet koruması altında olan bir mağaradır. Mağaranın oluşumunun eski tarihlere (yaklaşık olarak 1 milyon yıl geriye) dayanması onu bölgenin tarihine ve kültürüne şahit hale getirdi. Bu özelliğiyle Yarımburgaz Mağarası 20. yüzyılda Türk ve yabancı birçok arkeoloğun ve sanat tarihçisinin ilgisini çekti. Mağaranın bu özelliğine rağmen insanların Yarımburgaz Mağarasına karşı olan negatif tutumu yıllardan beri, sayısız önlem alınmasına rağmen dinmedi. Bu çalışmada 1959 yılı sonrası mağarada yapılan kazı çalışmaları, arkeolog Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özdoğan’ın liderliğini üstlendiği ikinci dönem kazı çalışmaları ve mağarada meydana gelen insan kaynaklı tahribatlar konu alındı.en_US
dc.description.abstractYarımburgaz Cave is located in the Başakşehir district of İstanbul. The cave is under state protection. The fact that the formation of the cave dates back to ancient times (approximately 1 million years ago) made it a witness to the history and culture of the region. Yarımburgaz Cave attracted the attention of many foreign and Turkish archaeologists and art historians in the 20th century. Despite the numerous precautions taken, the destruction in the cave has not subsided. In this study the excavations carried out in the cave after 1959, excavations led by the archaeologist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özdoğan and the human-driven destruction in the cave were discussed.en_US
