dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu çalışma, 1990'larda popüler olan "Sabah Kahvesi" siyasi hiciv programının televizyon macerasını inceleyecektir. Türkiye'de televizyonculuğun özelleşme dönemi ve politik mizah programlarının etkisi içinde “Sabah Kahvesi” programının yeri araştırılacaktır. Programın yaratıcıları Bahadır Tokmak ve Turgay Yıldız'ın tanışıklıkları, tepki çeken içerikleri ve Flash TV ile ilişkileri ele alınacak; ayrıca Atatürk'e hakaret suçlaması ve sonrasındaki dava süreci ile sanatçıların kariyerleri üzerindeki etkileri değerlendirilecektir.
dc.description.abstractThis study will explore the journey of the popular 1990s political satire show "Sabah Kahvesi" from its inception to its removal from television. It will examine the privatization of television channels in Turkey and the general role of political comedy shows, with a focus on "Sabah Kahvesi." The collaboration between producers and creators Bahadır Tokmak and Turgay Yıldız, the public reactions in '90s Turkey, their relationship with Flash TV, and their legal situation coming from accusations of insulting Atatürk will be discussed, alongside the impact on their careers post-trial.
