ODTü Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü'nün tarihi: Bilgisayar teknolojisinin Türkiye'deki eğitime yansıması

ODTü Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü, günümüz Türkiye’sinin en köklü eğitim kadrosuna ve eğitim sistemine sahip bilgisayar mühendisliği bölümüdür. İlk başta bir ODTü’ye ait bir Bilgisayar Merkezi olarak kurulmuşken, bilgisayar teknolojisinin geleceğe dair taşıdığı çığır açıcı potansiyel bu merkezinin geliştirilmesi fikrini doğurur. Diğer bölümlere bilgisayar ile ilgili servis dersi verme amacı ile başlayan bölüm, lisans bölümü olup kendi mezunlarını vermeye kadar ilerler. Bilgisayar teknolojisini diğer bölümlere dahil etmek üzere çıkılan bu yolda, bilgisayar kendi bilim dalını ve mesleğini yaratmıştır. ODTü Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü, Türkiye’nin endüstriyel, ekonomik, bilimsel ve teknolojik kalkınmasında büyük rol oynayacaktır. Bu projenin amacı Türkiye’nin önde gelen Bilgisayar Mühendisliği bölümlerinden olan ODTü Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü’nün kuruluşuna ve günümüz teknolojisinin lideri bilgisayar teknolojisinin Türkiye’deki eğitim sistemine nasıl entegre olarak onu değiştirdiğine ışık tutmaktır. Bu inceleme, hangi düşünceler ile bilgisayar teknolojisini ülkemizdeki eğitim ile bağdaştırdığımızı ve bu teknolojinin eğitimi ve dolaylı olarak endüstriyi nasıl değiştirdiğini anlamamıza ODTü Bilgisayar Mühendisliği kuruluşu üzerinden anlamamızı sağlıyor.

METU Computer Engineering Department has the most rooted academic staff and education system among other computer engineering departments in Turkey. First formed as a Computer Center belonging to METU, when the revolutionary potential of the emergence of the computer technology was recognized, the idea of development was formed. At start the department carried the aim to provide computer related service classes to departments of other disciplines in the university. However, It developed its position to a state where It became a department and gave its own graduates. Computer technology had started making its own branch of science and becoming a major of its own. METU Computer Engineering Department has provided Turkey with economical, industrial, technological and scientific advancements. The aim of this project is to shed light on how this department formed and what visions and thoughts went into the idea of developing a university department on computer science. The project also investigates how the new technology integrated into Turkey’s education system and formed a bond with other disciplines.
