dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada, Liberal Demokrat Parti'nin mevcut Genel Başkanı Gültekin Tırpancı ve selefi Cem Toker ile yapılan görüşmelerden yola çıkarak Türkiye'nin yakın tarihine genel bir bakış ile birlikte Türkiye'de liberal düşüncenin yeri incelenmiş olup, bu bilgilerin ışığında Liberal Demokrat Parti'nin kuruluş süreci mercek altına alınmıştır. Parti politikalarının zaman ve tarih içerisindeki öneminin altı çizilerek Parti'nin seçim ve propaganda çalışmaları üzerinde durulmuştur. Son olarak Liberal Demokrat Parti'nin 1999 ve 2002 Genel seçimlerindeki sonuçlarından hareketle partinin üzerinde çalışılmakta olan 1994-2002 yılları arasında Türkiye demokrasisindeki rolü ve yine dönem sınırları içerisinde Liberal Demokrat Parti'nin Türkiye demokrasisinde gerçekleşen güncel olaylara karşı tutumları değerlendirilmiştir.
dc.description.abstractIn the light of interviews that has been made with Chair of Liberal Democrat Party Gültekin Tırpancı, and former-chair Cem Toker, this paper examines Turkey's near-historical background and the role of liberalism in it, therefore investigates the establishment process of Liberal Democrat Party. The Party's propaganda system has been researched while underlying Party's policies over time. Finally, regarding to election results in 1999 and 2002, Liberal Democrat Party's position in Turkey's democratic journey has been evaluated with the Party's stance for Turkey's contemporary political events.
