dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAntik Mısır’da ortaya çıkıp Ortadoğu kültüründen esinlenen ve özellikle Doğu ülkelerinin kültüründe önemli bir yere sahip olan oryantal dans, hayatın birçok alanında yer etmeyi başarmıştır. Başlangıcı oldukça geriye giden bu stilin Osmanlı’da yadsınamaz bir yeri varken ileriki zamanlarında Türkiye’de de kültürün önemli bir parçası olmuştur. Gelişen teknoloji ve değişen dünyayla beraber oryantal dans da bir değişim içine girmiştir ve gazeteden televizyona birçok medya aracı için haber kaynağı olmuştur. Bununla beraber önceleri mahrem alanlarda icrası yapılan oryantal dansın medyayla beraber şeffaf bir görüntü almasıyla kadın bedeni üzerinden yapılan ithamlar ve kadın bedenine karşı olan bakış açısı da zamanla değişmiştir. Bu makale, oryantal dansın tarihini, oryantal dansta feminizmi, bu dansa karşı olan bakış açısını, medyadaki resmedilişini ve Türkiye’nin önemli dansözlerini konu alacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractBelly dance, which emerged in Ancient Egypt and was inspired by the Middle Eastern culture and has an important place in the culture of Eastern countries, has succeeded in taking its place in many areas of life. While this ancient style had an undeniable place in Ottoman Empire, it became an important part of Turkish culture in the later times as well. With the technology and the changing world, belly dance has undergone big changes and has become a news source for many media tools from newspapers to television. However, as belly dance took on a transparent image with the media, the point of view towards the female body has changed and accusations were made against them. This article will discuss the history of belly dance, feminism in belly dance, the perspective against this dance, its portrayal in the media and important belly dancers in Turkey.en_US
