dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractErzurum Evleri 19.Yüzyılın sonlarında inşa edilmeye başlanmış Erzurum'un ve doğu kültürünün önemli bir sembolü haline gelmiş yapılardır. Mimari yapısında Selçuklu ve Osmanlı mimari kültürünü yansıtan Erzurum Evleri, Türk kültürünü yansıtan yapıların birer örneğidir. Belirli özellikleriyle Anadolu Evleri'nden ayırt edilebilen Erzurum Evleri, iklim şartlarına ve halkın o zamanki ekonomik durumuna göre şekil almış ve zorluklar içerisinde inşa edilmiştir. Bu zorlukların içerisinde, 1859 yılında Erzurum'da meydana gelen ve yıkıcı sonuçlar doğuran depremin başı tuttuğu belirtilebilir. Bir diğer önemli zorluk olan, Rus işgali ve Ermeni saldırılarının yeri ise büyük önem arz eder. Tarihi olayların yanı sıra, şark kültürü ve doğu kültürünün Erzurum Evleri mimarisindeki etkisi büyüktür. Dönemin aile içi yapısı ve ailenin sosyal çevre içerisindeki rolü iç mimari üzerinden rahatlıkla çözümlenebilir. Bütün bunların yanı sıra, Erzurum Evlerinde bulunan 20.000'e yakın ev eşyası sayesinde, dönemin yemek kültürü hakkında yorumlarda bulunulabilir.
dc.description.abstractIn the late 19th century Erzurum Houses became an important symbol of Erzurum and eastern culture. Erzurum Houses are examples of structures that reflects Turkish culture. Erzurum Houses can be distinguished from Anatolian Houses with its climatic conditions and economic changes of the people at the time. Among these difficulties, the earthquake that took place in Erzurum in 1859 and had devastating consequences was one of the most important one. Another important challenges were, Russian occupation and Armenian attacks. In addition to historical events, the influence of the Erzurum Houses architecture is also important. It can be easily spotted through interior architecture in social media. In addition, household items that are close to 20,000, found in Erzurum Houses, can create an idea for the food culture of the period.
