Private art galleries started to increase their activities in Turkey in 1970’s. The galleries were not qualified as art galleries before the 1970’s. The growth of private art gallery business increased especially with 1980’s, along with the situation of the country and economic liberalization. Gallery Baraz, which was established by Yahşi Baraz and still continues its activities, started its activities in 1975. Gallery Baraz made significant contributions to the development and recognition of Turkish art since its establishment. In the 2000’s and later, art gained importance in Turkey with the influence of developing technology and digitalization. The movement in the art market affected the budgets of large companies and foundations to works of art in positive way. There has also been an increase in the number of art collectors and private art galleries.
