dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu projenin amacı; Şadi Olcay'ın hayatını, basketbol kariyerini ve antrenörlük kariyerini ayrıntılı bir şekilde anlatmaktır. Bu doğrultuda, basketbolun Türkiye'ye ve İzmir'e gelişiyle başlanarak, Şadi Olcay'ın basketbola başlamasının, basketbol kariyerinin ve aktif basketbol yaşamını sonlandırdıktan sonraki antrenörlük kariyerinin incelenmesiyle proje tamamlanmıştır. Proje kapsamında gerekli bilgilere ulaşmak için Şadi Olcay ile ve Şadi Olcay ile aynı zamanda ve bir dönem birlikte oynamış olan Cihangir Başaran ile röportaj gerçekleştirilmiş ve ayrıntılı kaynak taraması yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bilgiler ışığında, Şadi Olcay'ın aktif olarak basketbol oynadığı dönemde Türk sporu için önemli bir isim olduğu ve antrenörlük yaptığı dönemde Türk basketbolunun gelişmesi için önemli katkılarda bulunan bir isim olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this project is to describe Şadi Olcay's life, his basketball career and coaching in detail. In this direction, the Project is completed by starting investigating from the arrival of the basketball at Turkey and Izmir, Şadi Olcay's beginning to basketball, his basketball career and his coaching career after the end of his active basketball life. To achieve the necessary information for this project, a research has been done, and an interview with Şadi Olcay and Cihangir Başaran, who has been playing basketball with Şadi Olcay, has been done. In the light of the information gathered from the interview and the research, it is concluded that Şadi Olcay is a crucial name for Turkish sport when he was playing basketball actively and he has contributed to the development of Turkish basketball in the times of his coaching.
