dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractMahruki ailesi Türkiye’nin en köklü ailelerinden biridir. 200 yılı aşkın süredir İstanbul’da bulunan ailenin geçmişi Osmanlı ve Türkiye tarihi ile yakından ilişkilidir. Aile mensuplarının hikayeleri Türkiye ve Osmanlı tarihi açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Kaptan- Derya Nasuhzade Ali Paşa’nın yaşadıkları ve Kaptan-Derya olarak başardıkları Osmanlı Tarihi ve aile tarihi açısından önemlidir. Cem Mahruki bu köklü ailenin üyelerinden biridir. Türkiye’nin önemli koleksiyoncularından biridir ve çok değerli koleksiyonlara sahiptir. Bu koleksiyonların içerikleri Türkiye tarihi ve Türkiye’de koleksiyonculuğun gelişimi açısından önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırmada, Cem Mahruki’nin anlattıklarından, koleksiyonlarından, Nasuh Mahruki’nin aile geçmişi hakkında yazdığı makalelerden, aile mensuplarının yaşadıkları dönemlerde verdikleri röportajlardan, Sakız Adası isyanı hakkında elde edilen ansiklopedik bilgilerden yararlanılarak, Mahruki ailesinin ve Cem Mahruki’nin Türkiye tarihine ve koleksiyonculuğuna katkıları anlatılmıştır. Cem Mahruki’nin anlattıkları, röportajları, koleksiyonları ve Nasuh Mahruki’nin aile geçmişi hakkında yazdığı makaleler, Mahruki ailesinin geçmişini, koleksiyonculuğun geçmişten günümüze değişimini ve gelişimini anlatmaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractMahruki family is one of the most well-established family of Turkey. The family lives in İstanbul over 200 years. Their family history is closely related to Turkish, Ottoman history and the family history is very important for these histories. The Great Captain Nasuhzade Ali Paşa and his achievements are very crucial for Ottoman and family history since the family got their surname from his past. Cem Mahruki is one of the most important member of the family. He is a very important Turkish collector and has very rich collections. These collections contain important pieces for Turkish history. In this research, from Cem Mahruki’s narratives, collections, Nasuh Mahruki’s articles about his family, interviews of family members made in their time, encyclopaedical information about Sakız Island, it has told the contributions of Mahruki family and Cem Mahruki to the Turkish history and collecting history and development.en_US
