| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Bu araştırma makalesi, Türkiye'de nü sanatın ifadesi ve üretimi üzerindeki geçişin derin etkisine odaklanmaktadır ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun muhafazakâr kısıtlamalarından Cumhuriyet sonrası dönemin özgürleştirici atmosferine kadar evrimini incelemektedir. 1923'te Cumhuriyetin kurulmasıyla birlikte, toplumun değerleri, geleneksel İslami ilkelerden çağdaş batı ideallerine yönlendirilen bir kültür devrimine neden oldu. Osmanlı dönemi, muhafazakâr ideolojiler ve sosyal düzenlemelerle karakterize edilir ve çıplaklığın kamusal alanlarda tasvir edilmesini önler. Bu döneme ait sınırlı nü sanat genellikle özel ortamlarda gerçekleşerek, büyük Osmanlı mimarisini sergilemekte ve erotik konulara vurgu yapmaktadır. Diğer yandan, Cumhuriyet sonrası dönem kültürel bir değişim yaşadı; çıplaklığın bir sanat hareketi olarak benimsenmesi, geleneksel Türk sanatını modern ve batı etkileriyle birleştirerek daha geniş bir sanatsal dönüşüme neden oldu. Sanatçılar, yeni keşfedilen yaratıcı özgürlüğü kullanarak Osmanlı döneminin sanatsal kısıtlamalarından uzaklaştılar ve insan formunun gelişmiş ifadelerini denediler. Sanatsal stillerin ayrıntılı kalıplardan ve soyutlamadan izlenimciliğe, gerçekçiliğe ve soyut sanata kayması, Türk sanatını modernleştirmeye yönelik amaçlı bir girişimi yansıtmaktadır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This research paper focuses on the profound impact of the transition on the expression and production of nude art in Turkiye, tracing its evolution from the conservative constraints of the Ottoman Empire to the liberating atmosphere of the post-Republic period. The shift in governance from Ottoman rule to the establishment of the Republic in 1923 caused a cultural revolution, redirecting the society's values from conventional Islamic principles to contemporary Western ideals. The Ottoman era, characterized by conservative ideologies and social regulations, discouraged the portrayal of nudity in public spaces. The limited nude art from this period often depicted scenes in private settings, showcasing the grand Ottoman architecture and emphasizing erotica. In contrast, the post-Republic period witnessed a cultural metamorphosis; the embrace of nudity as an art movement during the post-Republic period observed a broader artistic transformation, incorporating traditional Turkish art with modern and Western influences. Artists experimented with advanced expressions of the human form, embodying newfound creative freedom and departure from the artistic restrictions of the Ottoman era. The shift in artistic styles from elaborate patterns and abstraction to impressionism, realism, and abstract art reflected the purposeful attempt to modernize Turkish art. | |
