| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Bu yazı adada harekât öncesi ve harekât sonrası durumu Mithat Işık’ın röportajında ve yazılarında vermiş olduğu kişisel yorumlarıyla ele almaktadır. İlk önce Kıbrıs’ın tarihi ve coğrafi önemini Mithat Işık’ın perspektifinden çiziyor. Mithat Işık harekatta aktif rol almış bir asker, bir komando olarak Türk askerlerinin seferberliği ve özverisi konusunda bir ayna görevi görüyor. Makale, sonrasında kendisinin harekât öncesi kişisel izlenimlerinin üzerinden geçiyor ve harekât kararı sonrasında çatışma içinde aldığı aktif role büyüteç tutuyor. Aynı zamanda, yine bir askerin gözünden adada bir gerilim olacağına dair öngörüler Kıbrıs sorununa başka bir boyuttan bakma fırsatı sunuyor. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This article examines the situation on the island before and after the operation through Mithat Isik's personal comments in his interviews and writings. Firstly, it draws the historical and geographical importance of Cyprus from Mithat Isik's perspective. As a soldier and commando who took an active role in the operation, Mithat Isik serves as a mirror for the mobilization and self-sacrifice of the Turkish soldiers. The article then goes through his personal impressions of the pre-operation period and his active role in the conflict after the decision to take action. At the same time, the predictions of tension on the island, again through the eyes of a soldier, offer an opportunity to look at the Cyprus problem from a different perspective. | |
