| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Camp Armen, which was in Tuzla and belonged to Armenian Protestant Church, hosted approximately 1500 Armenian orphans for several years. This orphanage was in service from 1962 until the decision of Supreme Court in 1987. In light of the information provided by the book which was written by the founder of Camp Armen and by the interviews we have done, the history and importance of the orphanage have been examined in this research article. The story of Camp Armen’s establishment and its mission as well as stories, memories and information provided by the founder of the camp and those who stayed there are important to understand the importance of this place for the people who spent their childhood there. The decision of demolishment taken on May 6, 2015 received strong reactions by some Armenian activists. After a semiannual opposition, Camp Armen was given back to its real owners, Armenian Protestant Church. The process of resistance reveals the significance of this camp for many Armenian orphans and for those who had pleasant memories there. | en_US |
