dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractSplendid Palas 1908 yılında Büyükada’da Hamamcıoğlu ailesinden Kazım Paşa tarafından açılmıştır. Otelin binası Kazım Paşa’nın Fransa’ya yaptığı seyahatlerde gözlemlediği Fransız otellerine uygun olarak inşa edilmiştir ve otelin içi özel tasarım mobilya ve eşyalarla döşenmiştir. İlk yılları otel olarak işlev vermiş olsa da devam eden yıllarda çeşitli savaşlardan ve siyasi olaylardan kaynaklı olarak binası ordunun emrine verilmiştir ve otel işletmeciliği dışında başka amaçlarda kullanılmıştır. Cumhuriyet döneminde tekrar otel olarak kullanılmaya başlanmış ve ev sahipliği yaptığı balo, düğün ve davetler sayesinde adını Türkiye’ye ve dünyaya duyurmuştur. Otel günümüzde halen Hamamcıoğlu ailesi tarafından işletilmektedir. İşletilirken gözetilen temel amaç otelin tarihini korumak ve gelecek nesillere aktarmak olmuştur. dc.description.abstractSplendid Palace was opened in 1908 in Buyukada by Hamamcioglu family member Kazim Pasha. The hotel's building was designed according to the hotels Kazim Pasha saw on his trip to France, and the interior of the hotel was designed with many custom-designed furniture. In the first years, it was operating as a hotel, but due to some wars going on in Turkey and the rest of the world, the hotel was confiscated by the army to be used for different purposes. In the Republican Era of Turkey, the hotel was again used as a hotel and was introducing itself to Turkey and the world. The hotel is still being operated by the Hamamcioglu family. The main purpose of the family has been to conserve history and leave it to the next generations. The hotel is now a first-degree historical monument.en_US
