dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTürkiye had gone through multiple wars, critical historical events and consequently economic fluctuations. This paper specifically focuses on the urbanization and modernization that occurred after the War of Independence in Türkiye, going over the major metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa and İzmit; an analysis of multiple architectures' projects (Carl Lörcher, Hermann Jansen, Henri Prost etc.) as well as comparing the differences in the schemes and situations operating the atmosphere before and after urbanization gives more insight into the comprehension of those changes after the war. Moreover, the paper goes through social and economic impacts of the changes, illustrating Türkiye from a macroeconomic and civic view.
dc.description.abstractTürkiye çoklu olarak savaşlar, tarihi olaylar ve ekonomik dalgalanmalarını geçirmiştir. Bu makale, özellikle İstanbul, Ankara, Bursa ve İzmit gibi büyük metropoliten alanlar üzerinden Türkiye'de Kurtuluş Savaşı sonrasında meydana gelen kentleşme ve modernleşmeye odaklanmaktadır; birden çok mimarinin projelerinin (Carl Lörcher, Hermann Jansen, Henri Prost vb.) analizi ve kentleşme öncesi ve sonrası atmosferi işleyen şemalar ve durumlar arasındaki farklılıkların karşılaştırılması, savaştan sonraki bu değişimlerin kavranması konusunda daha fazla fikir verir. Ayrıca, makale, Türkiye'yi makroekonomik ve kentsel bir bakış açısıyla örnekleyerek, değişikliklerin sosyal ve ekonomik etkilerini ele almaktadır.
