dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBaban Ailesinin Türk tarihindeki etkileri 16. yüzyıla dayanmaktadır. Süleymaniye Bölgesi’nde Baba Süleyman ile başlayan siyasi nüfuzları; Mustafa Zihni Paşa, Babanzade Ahmed Naim ve Babanzade İsmail Hakkı ile Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda ve Hüseyin Şükrü, Süleyman Hikmet, Cihat, Selim ve Ayşe Semiha Baban ile Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nde devam etmiştir. Babanzade Ailesi siyaset, basın, hukuk ve din alanlarında birçok başarıya imza atmıştır.
dc.description.abstractThe effects of the Baban Family date back to the 16th century. Their influence which began with Baba Suleyman in the Suleymaniyye Area continues in the Ottoman Empire with Mustafa Zihni Paşa, Babanzade Ahmed Naim and Babanzade İsmail Hakkı and in the Turkish Republic with Hüseyin Şükrü, Süleyman Hikmet, Cihat, Selim and Ayşe Semiha Baban. The Baban Family achieved a great many in politics, journalism, law and religion.
