As the tensions between Türkiye and Greece increased with the Cyprus crisis, Türkiye wanted to turn the Greeks in its country into a diplomatic trump card. For this reason, on March 16, 1964, Türkiye unilaterally terminated the agreement with Greece and forced the Greek nationals to leave the country as soon as possible. At that time, the dense Greek population living in the Gökçeada region was also subjected to emigration. With the "NSC Decision on Imbros and Bozcaada" published at the same time, the people of Gökçeada found themselves facing major changes. This period can be considered a turning point not only for Turkish-Greek relations but also for the attitude of the Republic of Türkiye towards the minorities it harbors. Within the scope of these events, this study will examine the political and social situation of Gökçeada before 1964, the reasons for the state policies implemented during this period and the changes that took place in Gökçeada as a result of the 1964 Greek deportation.
