dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractLeman Altınçekiç 1933 yılında Sarıkamış’ta doğdu. Türkkuşu’nda aldığı planörlük eğitiminden sonra 1955 yılında kadınların orduya alınması kararıyla Hava Harp Okulu’na başladı. İlk kadın subay olarak diğer adaylara örnek oldu ve 1957 yılında 24 kadın subay arasında birinci olarak mezun oldu. NATO’nun ve Türkiye’nin ilk kadın savaş jet pilotu olarak tarihteki yerini aldı. Bu çalışmada Leman Altınçekiç’in eğitim hayatı, yaşadığı zorluklar, ilk olması sebebiyle orduya kattığı yenilikler ve elde ettiği başarılar anlatılmaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractLeman Altınçekiç was born in Sarıkamış in 1933. After the glider education that she received in Türkkuşu, in 1955, she started to study in the Air Force Academy with the decision to involve women in the army. She became a model for other candidates as the first female officer and graduated in 1957 as the first among 24 women officers. She took NATO and Turkey's first female jet fighter pilots as place in history. In this study, Leman Altınçekiç's educational life, the difficulties she has experienced, the innovations she brings to the army due to being first, and her achievements are explained.en_US
