Türkiye’de psikiyatri alanının 1970’ten itibaren gelişimi ve Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu

Psikiyatr doktor Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu, Türk psikiyatrisinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Türkiye’nin ilk özel psikiyatri kliniği Madalyon’un kurucusu olan Budayıcıoğlu, uzun yıllara dayanan tecrübesi ve bu tecrübelerini aktardığı kitapları sayesinde hem psikiyatri alanına hem de Türk toplumunun psikiyatriyle tanışmasına büyük katkı sağladı. Bu çalışmamızda, Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu’nun çocukluğu, psikiyatri ile tanışması, kitap yazma yolculuğu, Madalyon’u kurma idealleri ve 1970’li yıllardan günümüze kadarki deneyimleri doğrultusunda Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu’nun yorumu ele alınacaktır. Tüm bu süreçte ise ülke genelinde psikiyatri de ön plana çıkmaya başladı ve devlet, eğitim ve sosyal hizmetler alanında yenilikler yapıldı. 70’lere kadar psikiyatride Avrupa standartlarının gerisinde olan Türkiye, bu doğrultuda uluslararası çalışmalara imza attı, eğitimde akreditasyonu sağladı ve hekim ve toplumu bir araya getirecek imkanlar sağladı. Dikkat çekici olarak, bu gelişime rağmen vaka sıklığı ve çeşitlerinde yükseliş, toplumun hastalara yaklaşımında ise damgalama görüldü. Aynı zamanda, öğrencilere tanınan imkan sayesinde artış gösteren psikiyatr mezunları sayesinde, bu döneme ait birçok görüş ortaya çıktı ve bunlardan bazıları ele alındı.

Psychiatrist Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu has an important role in Turkish psychiatry. Budayıcıoğlu, the founder of Turkey's first private psychiatry clinic, Madalyon, made a great contribution to both the field of psychiatry and the introduction of psychiatry to the Turkish community, due to her long years of experience and the books she wrote about these experiences. In this project, Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu's own evaluation will be discussed in line with her childhood, her acquaintance with psychiatry, her writing journey, her ideals of establishing Madalyon and her experiences from the 1970s to the present. Throughout this process, psychiatry came into prominence over the country, and innovations were made in the field of politics, education and the social services. Turkey, which was behind the European standards in psychiatry until the 70's, carried out international studies in this direction, provided accreditation in education and opportunities to bring psychiatrists and the society together. Remarkably, despite this development, there was an increase in the frequency and the types of cases, and a stigma in the society's approach to patients. At the same time, many views about psychiatry have emerged because of the high number of graduates after incentives provided to study psychiatry and some of the views were discussed.
