dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ilk yükseköğretim kurumlarından biri olan Yüksek Ziraat Enstitüsü (YZE), Ziraat, Ziraat Sanatları, Veteriner, Orman ve Tabii Bilimler olmak üzere 5 fakülteyi çatısı altında toplayarak 1933 yılında Ankara’da kurulmuş, ancak çıkarılan bir yasa ile 1948 yılında Orman Fakültesi dışında tüm fakülteleri Ankara Üniversitesi’ne bağlanmıştır. YZE, Türkiye’de ilk bilimsel araştırmaların yapılmasına öncülük etmiş ve çağdaş yükseköğretimin temelini oluşturmuştur. Zootekni Enstitüsü, YZE Ziraat Fakültesi’nin enstitülerinden biridir. Zootekni Enstitüsü, çiftlik hayvanı yetiştiriciliği öğretimi vermiş ve Türkiye’de hayvancılık biliminin geliştirilmesi işlevini yerine getirmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Zootekni Enstitüsü’nün kuruluşu, kuruluşta görev alan bilim adamları, Enstitü’deki eğitim araştırma olanakları ve buradan yetişerek Türkiye’de diğer ziraat fakültelerinin zootekni bölümlerinin kurulmasına öncülük etmiş bilim adamları hakkında bilgiler sunulmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractOne of Turkish Republic’s first higher educational institutions, Higher Agriculture Institute (Yüksek Ziraat Enstitüsü -YZE), was established by gathering five different faculties Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Agricultural Arts, Faculty of Veterinary, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Natural Sciences – under the same roof in 1933 in Ankara. However, all faculties, except the Faculty of Forestry, were later incorporated into Ankara University due to the 1948 lawsuit. Through these 15 years, YZE pioneered the first scientific researches in Turkey and established the foundations of modern Turkish higher education. Animal Science Institute was the institute teaching farm animal (livestock) raising in YZE. Animal Science Institute fulfilled its function by establishing the science and practice of livestock breeding in Turkey. In this study, the knowledge on the establishment of Animal Science Institute, the scientists who took part in the establishment, the education and research facilities in the Institute, the scientists who grew up in the Institute and pioneered the establishment of the animal science departments in other agricultural faculties in Turkey were presented.en_US
