| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Bu makale, Bolu’nun Gerede ilçesindeki dericilik sektörünün yirminci yüzyıl sonundakini durumunu incelemektedir. Bu makalede Gerede koşullarının dericiliğe elverişliliği, sektörün Gerede’ye yayılma süreci ve burada sıklıkla üretilen deri ürünlerine değinilmiştir. Ayrıca, Gerede dericiliğinde sanayileşme süreci, sektörün ilçeye ekonomik açıdan katkıları ve çevreye etkileri üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu çalışma, Türkiye Dericiler Derneği Başkan Yardımcısı ve Gerede Ticaret ve Sanayi Odası Başkanı olan Ersin Kaşka ile görüşülerek sözlü tarih kapsamında Gerede dericiliğinin iki binler öncesi dönemdeki durumunu ve geçirdiği dönüşümleri açıklamayı hedeflemektedir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This article examines the state of the leather industry in Gerede, which is one of the districts of Bolu province, at the end of the twentieth century. It discusses the suitability of Gerede's conditions for leather production, the process of the leather industry spreading to Gerede, and the most commonly produced items in the region. Additionally, the industrialization process in Gerede's leather industry, the sector's economic contributions to the district, and its environmental impacts are analyzed. Through interviews with Ersin Kaşka, Vice President of the Turkish Leather Association and President of the Gerede Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the article aims to explore the state of Gerede's leather industry before the 2000s and the transformations it underwent. | |
