dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmayla Türkiye'de dilbilimine kimlik kazandıran Prof. Dr. Doğan Aksan'ın hayatının ve dilbilime katkılarının incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın araştırdığı konular: Doğan Aksan'ın akademik ve kişisel hayatı, etkilediği ve etkilendiği kşiler, Türkiye'de dilbilimin geçmişi ve geleceği hakkındaki görüşleri, son olarak onurlandırılmasıdır. Birincil kaynak olarak Doğan Aksan'ın özgeçmişi, yazdığı makaleler ve öğrencisi Gülsün Leyla Uzun'la yaptığımız röportaj kullanılacaktır. Gülsün Leyla Uzun'un sağladığı bilgiler ve Ahmet Sinan Turan'ın yazdığı “Dil Bilimini Sevdiren Adam” adlı makale çalışmanın temelini oluşturmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis research aims to study Prof. Dr. Doğan Aksan who defined the linguistics in Turkey and his contributions to Turkish linguistics. This paper delves into his academic life, his personal life, the people whom he had an influence on and the people who affected him, his thoughts about the past and the future of Turkish linguistics and finally, into how he was honored. The autobiography of Doğan Aksan, his own papers and interview conducted by us with his student, Gülsün Leyla Uzun are used as primary sources. The insight given by Gülsün Leyla Uzun and Ahmet Turan Sinan's essay, “Dil Bilimini Sevdiren Adam”, provide a basis for this research.en_US
