dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstract1896 yılında Avusturya Macaristan hâkimiyeti altında olan Bosna şehrinde doğan İsmet Çok, 85 yıllık yaşamında göç, savaş, esaret olaylar yaşamıştır. 19.yüzyılın sonlarında Bosna'da Müslümanlara yönelik baskıların artması sonucunda ailesi ile birlikte Ankara'ya göçmüş, Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nın başlamasıyla birlikte askeri hayatına başlamış ve Birinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında girilen mücadeleler sonucu esir düşmüştür. Milli Mücadele'de çeşitli görevler almış ve Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi tarafından İstiklal Madalyası'na layık görülmüştür. Savaştan sonra ise Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları'nda baş revizör olarak görev almıştır. Emekli olduktan sonra geçimini açtığı bakkal sayesinde sürdüren İsmet Çok 1981 yılında vefat etmiştir.
dc.description.abstractİsmet Çok was born in 1896 in Bosnia under the rule of Austria-Hungary and was forced to experience the events, such as migration, war and captivity. Ġsmet Çok, who migrated to Ankara with his family as a result of the increasing pressure on Muslims in Bosnia at the end of the 19th century, started his military life with the outbreak of the First World War. He was captured as a result of the struggles. Turkey has been awarded him with the Independence Medal by the National Assembly. After the war, he served as head officer in the Turkish State Railways. After his retirement, İsmet Çok opened a grocer and he died in 1981.
