| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | 12 Eylül 1980 darbesi türkiye siyasi tarihinin en önemli olaylarından biridir. Darbe sürecine giderken 1970-80 polis teşkilatlatmasının durumu bu süreci oldukça etkilemiştir. Polis teşkilatının ve ülkenin bu dönemdeki sağ-sol çatışmasına karşı bir duruş sergileyen polis teşkilatının önemli mensuplarının öldürülmesi ile gelişen ve güçlenen darbe süreci incelenmektedir. Bu teşkilat mensuplarından biri olan Adana il emniyet müdürü Cevat Yurdakulun duruşu, yaptıkları ve suikaste uğraması o dönemin siyası ortamının değerlendirilmesi için gereklidir. Ayrıca Cevat Yurdakul ve birçok diğer öldürülen polisin incelenmesi darbe ortanın anlaşılması için bir temel oluşturmaktadır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The September 12, 1980, coup is one of the most significant events in Turkish political history. The coup played a pivotal role in shaping the state of the police force during the 1970-80. This study examines the coup's progression, which was influenced and strengthened by the assassination of key figures in the police force who stood against the right-left ideological conflict of the period. Among these figures, Adana Provincial Police Chief Cevat Yurdakul’s stance, actions, and eventual assassination provide crucial insights into the political climate of the era. Additionally, the investigation of Cevat Yurdakul and other assassinated police officers lays a foundation for understanding the environment that facilitated the coup. | |
