dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractRüzgarlı Sokak, Cumhuriyet'in ilanından sonra "siyasetin merkezi" olmasıyla gazeteciler için stratejik önem taşıyan konumu nedeniyle Ankara basınının merkezi haline gelmiştir. 1995 yılına kadar 33 gazeteye ev sahipliği ya Türkiye'nin gazetecilikte önde gelen isimlerini yetiştiren bir gazetecilik okulu olmasının yanı sıra Ulus'un sosyo-kültürel gelişimine de katkıları olmuştur. Türkiye'nin yıllar içinde değişen siyasi dengelerini ve gazeteciliğe etkilerini anlamak için Rüzgarlı Sokak'ta çıkan siyaset ile iç içe gazetelerini incelemek gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada Ankara basınının merkezi olan Rüzgarlı Sokak'ın Cumhuriyet'in ilk yıllarından itibaren değişim gösteren Türkiye basınındaki konumu ve Ankara gazeteciliğindeki önemi; Hakimiyet-i Milliye, Ulus, Zafer ve Akşam gazeteleri üzerinden anlatılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractRuzgarli Sokak, which became the center of the Ankara press due to its strategically important position for journalists after its proclamation as the "center of politics", hosted 33 newspapers until 1995. Besides playing a huge role in educating journalists, the street contributed to the sociocultural development of Ulus. To understand the inconstant political situation of Turkey and its impacts on journalism throughout the years, it is necessary to examine the newspapers intertwined with politics in Rüzgarlı Sokak. In this study, the importance of Rüzgarlı Sokak in terms of the growth of specifically Ankara and generally Turkey press is being addressed by examining Hakimiyet-i Milliye, Ulus, Zafer and Akşam newspapers.
