| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Savarona Yatı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin önemli bir kültürel mirası olarak dikkat çekmektedir. Bu makale, Savarona'nın tarihine odaklanarak, Türkiye Tarihi’ndeki ve günümüzdeki önemini ve rolünü aydınlatmayı amaçlamaktadır. Yatın inşası ve satın alınma süreci, Türkiye'nin denizcilik alanında attığı önemli adımlardan biridir. Atatürk'ün bu gemide geçirdiği zaman, yatın tarihinde bir dönüm noktası olmuş ve onunla özdeşleşmiştir. Savarona, Atatürk'ün hatıralarını canlı tutma ve onun anılarına bir köprü olma görevini bu sayede üstlenmiştir. Atatürk’ün ölümünden sonraki süreçte, 1951-1986 yılları arasında, Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri'ne ait bir eğitim gemisi olarak hizmet vermiş, denizcilik eğitimine katkı sağlamıştır. Atatürk’ten sonra yatta önemli toplantılar yapılmış, önemli konuklar ağırlanmış ve seferler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Millî Savunma Bakanlığı'nın denetimi altında olan matbaaların kontrolü Savarona’nın kitap olarak basılması için gereken adımları atmayı orlaştırmaktadır. Yatın tarihi ve kültürel öneminin farkında olan Deniz uvvetleri'nde görev almış eski emekli subaylar ve yakın çevreleri yatın müzeleştirilmesi ve kitabının basılması için gerekli adımları atmaya devam etmektedirler. Atatürk'ün Savarona'daki zamanı, Türk milleti için bir sembol haline gelmiş ve bir milli simge haline gelmesine katkıda bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak, bu araştırma Savarona Yatı'nın tarihini aydınlatmayı, kültürel mirasını korumayı ve gelecek nesillere aktarmayı amaçlamaktadır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The Savarona Yacht stands out as an important cultural heritage of the Republic of Turkey. By focusing on the history of the Savarona, this article aims to highlight its importance and role in the history of Turkey. The construction and acquisition of the yacht is one of the most important steps Turkey has taken in the maritime field. In addition to being an important symbol of today's Turkish Navy, the Savarona Yacht occupied a special place in the life of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In 1938, when Atatürk was struggling with health problems, he spent 56 days on the Savarona. Atatürk's time on this ship was a turning point in the yacht's history and became synonymous with him. After Atatürk's death, the yacht served as a training ship for the Turkish Navy between 1951 and 1986, contributing to maritime education. After Atatürk's death, important meetings were held on the yacht, important guests were hosted and cruises were organized. The control of the printing presses under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defense makes it difficult to take the necessary steps to publish material about Savarona. Aware of the historical and cultural importance of the yacht, former retired officers of the Navy and their close circles continue to take the necessary steps to make the yacht a museum and publish the book. Atatürk's time aboard the Savarona has become a symbol for the Turkish nation and contributed to her becoming a national icon. In conclusion, this research aims to illuminate the history of the Savarona Yacht, preserve its cultural heritage, and pass it on to future generations. | |
