dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAnkaragücü Spor Kulübü, taraftar kitlesiyle ve başarılı oyuncu kadrosuyla Ankara’nın ve Türkiye’nin önde gelen futbol takımlarından biridir. Takım geçmiş yıllarda ve günümüzde birçok başarılı oyuncu ve yöneticinin adımlarından bir tanesi olmuştur. Ankaragücü’nün bu başarılı yöneticilerden birisi Abdullah Aktuğ, namı diğer Apo Dayı’dır. Abdullah Aktuğ; Adana Demirspor ve Trabzonspor’un eski futbolcusu, aynı zamanda da Ankaragücü eski yöneticilerindendir. Bu araştırmada Apo Dayı’nın futbol geçmişiyle alakalı gazete haberlerinden, görsellerden, sözlü kaynaklardan, bazı yazılı belgelerden ve özellikle de ilk ağızdan, kendisinden bizzat alınan bilgilerden faydalanılarak kişinin futbol öncesi ve sonrası hayatı, Ankaragücü’nün Apo Dayı yönetiminde olduğu yıllardaki durumu, taraftar tarihi ve Abdullah Aktuğ’un özel hayatı anlatılmıştır. Yönetici olarak yer aldığı 15 yılda sağladığı faydalar ve sayesinde yaşanan önemli değişimler ve yenilikler sayesinde takımı ileri noktalara taşıyan Abdullah Aktuğ’un yaşam ve başarı öyküsü; Türk futbol tarihinde yaşanan zorlukları, değişimleri ve özellikle Ankaragücü’nün başlangıçtan günümüze gelişimini gözlemleyebilmek adına büyük önem taşımaktadır. Apo Dayı’nın genç yaştan itibaren futbol kariyerinde attığı adımlar ve tecrübeleri; Türkiye’de zor koşullarda doğup büyüyen bir kişinin başarıya nasıl ulaşılabileceği ve Türkiye’de futbolculuğun nasıl bir meslek haline getirilebileceği hakkında önemli ipuçları vermektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractAnkaragücü Sports Club is one of the leading football teams in Ankara and Turkey with its fan base and successfull football players. The team has been one of the steps of many successful players and managers in the past years and today. One of these successful managers of Ankaragücü is Abdullah Aktuğ, also known as Apo Dayı. Abdullah Aktuğ is the former football player of Adana Demirspor and Trabzonspor, and is also one of the former managers of Ankaragücü. In this research, the life him before and after football, the situation of Ankaragücü in the years when Apo Dayı was under the management, the history of the fans and Abdullah Akuğ’s private life is described by making use of the newspaper news, visuals, oral sources, some written documents and especially the information obtained from him personally, firsthand about his football past. The life and success story of Abdullah Aktuğ, who has pushed the team forward thanks to the benefits he has provided in his 15 years as a manager is important in the history of Turkish football to be able to observe the difficulties, changes and especially the development of Ankaragücü from the beginning to the present. The steps and experiences of Apo Dayı in his football career from a young age; gives important clues about how a person who was born and raised in difficult conditions in Turkey can achieve success and how football can be turned into a profession in Turkey.en_US
