dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

dc.description.abstract | Tarih boyu Türkiye toprakları, coğrafi konumunun bir sonucu olarak, çeşitli kültürlerin ve farklı toplumların barındığı bir bölge olma özelliğini sürdürmüştür. Alevi Türkmen Tahtacılar bu konuda verilebilecek örneklerden biridir. Çoğunlukla Batı ve Güney Anadolu’ya yerleşmiş olduğu bilinen Tahtacılar’ın özel olarak yerleştiği yerlerden birisi de Mersin’in Silifke ilçesi ve yakınlarıdır. Tahtacılar, Alevi bir topluluktur. Alevilik geleneğini ve inançlarını sürdürmelerinin yanında birtakım özgün kültürel ögelere ve yaşam biçimine de sahiptirler. Bu çalışmada Tahtacılar’ın Silifke yöresine yerleşmiş olan kısmı ‘Silifke Tahtacıları’ adı altında incelenmiştir. Yöreye dair genel ve tarihi bilgiler ışığında Tahtacılar’ın kökenleri ve Alevilik ile bağları araştırılıp Silifke Tahtacıları’nın Türkiye sosyo-kültürel yapısı içindeki yeri ortaya konmuştur. | |
dc.description.abstract | As a consequence of its geographic location, Turkey has been a region where numerous cultures and different populations lived throughout the history. Alevi Turkoman Tahtacılar is an example of those populations. Tahtacılar are known to be settled mostly in West and South Anatolia. Tahtacılar is an Alevi community. In addition to maintaining the traditions and beliefs of Alevism, they also have several unique cultural elements and lifestyle. In this study, Tahtacılar that is settled in Silifke region is investigated as ‘Silifke Tahtacıları’ (Tahtacılar of Silifke). In the light of the general and historical information about the region, the origins of Tahtacılar and their relation with Alevism are investigated and the role of Silifke Tahtacıları in socio-cultural structure of Turkey is presented. | |
