dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1875 yılında yabancı devletlerin katkılarıyla Dünya’da büyük sükse yaratan ve bir geleneksel spor olarak başlayan futbolun Türkiye’deki ilk adımları atıldı. Halk tarafından bir hobi olarak benimsenen futbol, zamanla Devlet tarafından maddi potansiyelinin fark edilmesiyle birlikte kurumsallaşmaya başladı. Dönemin şartlarıyla beraber Türkiye’nin doğu ve batı bölgeleri arasındaki doğal ve beşeri farklar sebebiyle bu bölgelerde futbol farklı bir profesyonelleşme süreci geçirdi. Doğu bölgesinde ağır adımlarla gelişen futbol, Erzurumspor, Erzincanspor ve Vanspor gibi resmi futbol kulüplerinin başarıları sayesinde doğudaki profesyonelleşme süreci hız kazandı ve bir nebze de olsa batı illerinin bulunduğu konuma yaklaştı. Elbette ki dönemin zorlayıcı şartlarının Doğu illeri üzerindeki etkisinin negatif olması sebebiyle futbolun profesyonelleşme süreci geciktirildi, lakin doğu toplumundan gelen olumlu destekler ve tepkiler neticesinde maddi zorluklar manevi desteklerle aşıldı ve doğu illeri bugünkü spor başarısını yakalayabildi.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn 1875, with the contributions of foreign governments, the first steps of the famous traditional sport, football has been stimulated. At first, football was considered as a hobby, however over time the Turkish government has realized the economic potential of this sport, thus institutionalization of football has been subsidized. Naturally, the differences between the regions of Turkey and the different geographical conditions have caused an alteration in the process of professionalization in the East and the West. With the successes of teams like Erzurumspor, Erzincanspor, and Vanspor, the professionalization process of football in the East has accelerated and the gap between East and West has become closer. The harsh conditions of the era have caused the East to slow its professionalisation process, however,en_US
