dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractHSBC, 1990 yılında Türkiye’de Midland Bank ismiyle faaliyetlerine başladı. Türkiye’de yatırım yapan ilk İngiliz bankası olmasıyla birlikte Türkiye’deki ilk yabancı sermayeli bankalardan da biridir. HSBC Türkiye’de kurulduğu tarihten itibaren Türk bankacılık sektörünün dışa açılmasında önemli rol oynadı. Buna ek olarak Demir Bank’ı satın alması, elde ettiği çeşitli başarılar, kazandığı ödüller ve 2003’teki bombalı saldırı ile medyada birçok kez gündeme geldi. Bu makale HSBC’nin Türkiye’ye giriş yaptığı dönemdeki Türk bankacılığıyla birlikte HSBC Türkiye’nin önemli faaliyetlerinin tarihini inceleyecek ve HSBC’nin hangi alanlarda farklı bir banka olduğunu açıklayacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractHSBC is a bank that started its operations in Turkey under the name Midland Bank in 1990. HSBC is one of the first foreign capital banks in Turkey, as well as being the first British bank to invest in Turkey. Since its establishment in Turkey, HSBC has played an important role in making the Turkish Banking sector much more international. In addition, HSBC's acquisition of Demir Bank, its various achievements, the awards it won and the bomb attack in 2003 came to the fore many times in the media. This article will examine the history of important activities and events of HSBC in Turkey, along with Turkish banking sector at the time HSBC entered Turkey, and will explain in which areas HSBC is a different bank.en_US
