dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract20. ve 21. yüzyılda Türkiye’de beyin cerrahisinin en başarılı temsilcilerinden biri Profesör Doktor İsmail Hakkı Aydın’dır. Aydın yalnızca bir beyin cerrahı değil, aynı zamanda bir filozof, şair, bestekâr ve yazardır. Bu çok yönlü karakterini ilk olarak yetiştirilme tarzına, sonrasında kendi kendini eğitme şekline borçludur. Yetiştirilme tarzındaki en önemli etken İsmail Hakkı Aydın’ın aile geçmişidir. Fertlerinin çoğunu bilim adamlarının oluşturduğu, bilimi fazlasıyla teşvik eden bir ailede büyüyen İsmail Hakkı Aydın, çok küçük yaşlarda dedesi ve babası tarafından eğitilmeye başlamıştır. Okul hayatı boyunca öğretmenlerinin gözdelerinden biri haline gelmiş, çalışma prensipleri ve disipliniyle başarılı bir öğrencilik hayatı geçirmiştir. İsmail Hakkı Aydın üniversite yıllarında evlenmiş ve çocuk sahibi olmuş, buna rağmen beyin cerrahisine tutkusu asla azalmamıştır. İsmail Hakkı Aydın, “Yüzyılın Cerrahı” Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil başta olmak üzere birçok değerli bilim adamı ile birlikte çalışmış, bu çalışma sürecinde Türk akademisindeki değişimlere yakından şahit olmuş, gelişimlere katkıda bulunmuştur. Dünya çapında kendi ismiyle anılan bir ameliyat yöntemi geliştirmesi ve adına kongre düzenlenen ilk Türk bilim adamlarından biri olmasıyla bilinen İsmail Hakkı Aydın, 1990 yılı itibarıyla edebiyat, musiki ve felsefe alanlarında eserler vermeye başlamış, bu alanlarda da adından bahsettirmeyi başarmıştır. Türk akademisinin gelişim aşamalarını, Türkiye’de beyin cerrahisini ve bir bilim adamının yaşam felsefesini anlamak açısından İsmail Hakkı Aydın yararlı bir kaynaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractProfessor Ismail Hakkı Aydın is one of the most successful representatives of neurosurgery in Turkey in the 20th and 21st centuries. Aydın is not only a neurosurgeon, but also a philosopher, poet, composer and writer. He owes this versatile character first to his upbringing and then to his self-education. The most important factor in his upbringing is Ismail Hakkı Aydın's family background. Ismail Hakkı Aydın, who grew up in a family where most of the members are scientists and highly encourage science, started to be educated by his grandfather and father at a very young age. He became one of the favourites of his teachers along his school life, and had a successful student life with his working principles and discipline. Ismail Hakkı Aydın got married and had children during his university years; however, his passion for neurosurgery never decreased. Ismail Hakkı Aydın studied with many precious scientists, especially the "Surgeon of the Century" Mahmut Gazi Yasargil, and during this studying process, he witnessed the changes in the Turkish academy closely and contributed to the developments. Ismail Hakkı Aydın, who is known worldwide thanks to developing a surgical method which is known by his name and being one of the first Turkish scientists in whose name a congress was held, started to produce works in the fields of literature, music and philosophy by year 1990, and achieved to make a name for himself in these fields as well. Ismail Hakkı Aydın is a useful resource in terms of understanding the development stages of the Turkish academy, neurosurgery in Turkey and the life philosophy of a scientist.en_US
