dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBale sanatının geçmişi Türkiye’de çok eskilere dayanmasa da bu sanatın yolculuğuna ve gelişimine tanık olabilmek adına hem Yıldız Alpar’ın hem de onun hocası olan Rus asıllı balet Lydia Krassa Arzumanova’nın yaşadıkları büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırmada Osmanlı’dan günümüze Türk balesi ve Alpar’ın hocası olan Lydia Krassa Arzumanova’nın hayatı anlatılmıştır. Buna ek olarak, Türk Balesinin gelişmesinde önemli rol oynamış olan Alpar’ın bale ve eğitmenlik kariyeri, kendisi ve öğrencileri ile yapılan görüşmeler, çeşitli gazetelerden, kitaplardan ve belgeselden toplanılan bilgiler ile anlatılmıştır. Yurt içi ve yurtdışından sayısız ödül almış olan Yıldız Alpar, 60 yıldır Kadıköy’deki kendi okulunda Türk gençlerine baleyi öğretmeye devam etmektedir. Türkiye’de sanata verilen değerin yavaş yavaş kayboluşuna kendi sözlerinden ve Arzumanova’nın hayatının son dönemlerinde yaşadığı zorluklara bakılarak anlaşılmaktadır. Yıldız Alpar’ın başarıları Türk Bale tarihi için büyük önem taşımaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis research, tells the history of Turkish Ballet from Ottoman Empire days to the present time, and studies the life of Lydia Krassa Arzumanova, teacher of Alpar. In addition, the resesearch contains information about Alpar’s career, who had a major role in the development of Turkish Ballet, both as a ballerina and an instructor. This information about Alpar’s career was gathered from the interviews made with herself and her students, and also from various newspaper articles, books and documentaries. Yıldız Alpar, who won multiple awards in Turkey and Internationally, continues to teach ballet to Turkish students, in her own school located at İstanbul, Kadıköy for 60 years. The reducing amount of the value of Arts in Turkey, could be observed from Yıldız Alpar’s own words and from the struggles Arzumanova faced in the last days of her life. The success of Yıldız Alpar is of great importance for Turkish Ballet History.en_US
