dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1780’li yıllar Osmanlı ve dolayısıyla Türk tarihinde havacılık faaliyetlerinin başlangıcı olmuştur. 1923’te Cumhuriyet’in ilan edilmesinin ardından Türkiye’de havacılık alanında önemli gelişmeler yaşanmıştır. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün önderliğinde uçak imalatının başlaması her konuda yerli ve milli olabilme arzusunun doğal bir sonucu olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. 1. Dünya Savaşı’ndan çıkarılan dersler göz önünde tutularak havacılık sanayisinin geliştirilmesi ve havacı personelin yetiştirilmesi gayesiyle bazı girişimlerde bulunulmuştur. Nuri Demirağ bu amaca hizmet eden bir girişimci olarak Türk havacılığı için önemli bir isim olan Mehmet Kum’u da ülkeye kazandırmıştır. Mehmet Kum hem uçak mühendisi hem de pilot kimliğiyle ayrı başarılara imza atmıştır. Kendisi Nuri Demirağ’ın uçak fabrikasında çalışma fırsatı bulmuş aynı zamanda Nuri Demirağ’ın Gök Pilot okulunda hem öğrenci hem öğretmen olma şansını elde etmiştir. Onlarca genci yetiştiren ve onların pilot olmalarını sağlayan da bizzat kendisidir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn 1780’s the aviation activities started for the Ottoman empire hence the Turks. Under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, aircraft manufacture began as the desire to be domestic and national in every sense and for every branch. Lessons that are taken in the I.World War showed that aircraft manufacture should be improved and more flight crew should be raised. For achieving this goal, they had some important attempts. Nuri Demirağ is an enterpreuner who worked for this aim and he was the person that trained Mehmet Kum who was an important figure for Turkish aviation. Mehmet Kum succeed at many things being both a plane engineer and a pilot. He had the opportunity for working at Nuri Demirağ’s aircraft factory and he was lucky enough to be both a student and a teacher in Nuri Demirağ’s Gök Pilot School. He himself was the flight teacher who raised so many important pilots.en_US
