dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractAntik çağlarda Türkiye toprakları; Sümerler, Asurlular ve Hititler gibi pek çok uygarlığa ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Bu uygarlıklar tarafından oluşturulan ve bu medeniyetlerin kültürü ve günlük yaşamlarından izler barındıran binlerce tablet Türkiye'de yapılan kazılarda gün yüzüne çıkarılmıştır. Teknik elverişsizlikler ve nitelikli araştırmacı yetersizliğinden ötürü bu tabletler üzerinde uzun yıllar herhangi bir işlem yapılamamış ve bulunan tabletler İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzesinin depolarında bekletilmiştir. Cumhuriyet dönemine gelindiğinde Atatürk'ün tarih ve arkeoloji üzerinde yaptığı çalışmalar dolayısıyla müzedeki tabletler yeniden gündeme gelmiş, Muazzez İlmiye Çığ gibi yeni yetişmiş uzmanlarla birlikte yurt dışından gelen araştırmacıların da müzeye atanmasıyla tabletlerin çözümlenme işlemleri başlamıştır. Bu araştırma yazısında tabletlerin çözümlenmesiyle oluşan İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzesi Çivi Yazılı Belgeler Arşivi'nin kuruluşu incelenmiş, bu hususta Muazzez İlmiye Çığ'ın görüşleri alınarak anılarından faydalanılmıştır. Aynı zamanda arşivlenen tabletlerin önemi, günümüzde çıkarılan tabletlerin durumu ve dijital tabanlı yeni sistemlerin tabletlerin çözümlenmesinde nasıl kullanabileceği de yazıda ele alınmıştır.
dc.description.abstractIn ancient times the territory of Turkey; it hosted many civilizations such as Sumerians, Assyrians and Hittites. Thousands of tablets created by these civilizations and containing traces of the culture and daily lives of these civilizations were unearthed during excavations in Turkey. Due to technical inconveniences and lack of qualified researchers, these tablets were not processed for many years and the tablets were kept in the warehouses of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum.As a result of Atatürk's work on history and archaeology, the tablets in the museum were reintroduced and the resolution of the tablets started with the appointment of newly trained researchers such as Muazzez İlmiye Çığ and researchers from abroad. In this research article, the establishment of the Istanbul Archeology Museum Cuneiform Documents Archive, which was formed by analyzing the tablets, was examined by utilizing Muazzez İlmiye Çığ's memories. At the same time, the importance of archived tablets, the state of the tablets removed today, and how new digital-based systems can be used to analyze the tablets are examined.
