| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Eyüpspor, Osmanlı’nın son zamanlarına ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ilk yıllarına şahitlik etmiş önemli bir spor kulübüdür. V. Mehmet Reşat’ın hayata geçirdiği Eyüpspor, 2023/2024 sezonunun sonunda Süper Lig’e çıkmayı garantilemiş ve asırlık hayalini gerçekleştirebilmiş ender İstanbul ilçe kulüplerinden biridir. Milli Mücadele sürecinde silah sevkiyatı gibi konularda halkın yardımına koşan kulübün Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarihinde önemli bir konumda yer aldığını görmek mümkündür. Kuruluş yıllarından bugüne, tarihinde birçok dönüm noktası yaşamış olan kulüp, başarı dolu sezonlarla birlikte zorluklarla da sınanmıştır. Finansal zorluklarla mücadele etmiş ve bir noktada kapanma noktasına bile gelmiş olan kulüp, bu zorlukların üstesinden gelerek kendini korumuş ve bu zorlukların üstesinden gelerek bugüne kadar varlığını sürdürebilmiştir. Bu araştırmada, Türk futbol tarihinin bir kültürel mirası olan Eyüpspor’un kuruluşu, Milli Mücadele’deki yeri, yerel topluma etkileri ve taraftarları ile olan etkileşimi incelenmiştir. Çalışma sırasında Eyüpspor’la ilgili yazılan kitaplar, internet kaynakları, ve 2012-2013 sezonunda Eyüpspor’un teknik direktörlüğünü yapmış olan Hasan Çelik ve eski Eyüpspor futbolcusu Özcan Purde, Eyüpspor kulübünün güncel asbaşkanı olan Fatih Kulaksız, ve 1988-1990 yıllarında Eyüpspor kulüp başkanlığı yapmış olan Muammer Torun ile yapılan röportajlar kullanılmıştır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Eyüpspor, having witnessed the late Ottoman and the early Republic of Türkiye periods, is a significant sports club in Turkish history. The establishment of the club was brought to life by Sultan Mehmed V. Eyupspor is one of the rare Turkish district clubs that made it onto the Turkish Super League, realizing its century-old dream. Along with its football related achievements, the club has also made a mark in Turkish history through the national struggle period by supporting the cause with activities such as arms shipments. From its foundation years to 2023-2024 season, Eyupspor has passed through many seasons with both successes and failures. It has faced financial difficulties and was almost shut down at one point and yet it has overcome these challenges and shaped Turkish social and cultural history through its local social activities. This research examines the foundation of Eyüpspor, its role in the national struggle era, its football related history, its impact on the local community and fan interactions. While conducting the study, books about Eyüpspor, online sources, and interviews with former Eyüpspor football coach (2012-2013) Hasan Çelik and Özcan Purde, current vice president of the club Fatih Kulaksız, and former president (1988-1990) Muammer Torun were used. | |
