| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Türkiye'nin ata sporu olan güreş, sporcuların ülkeyi ulusal ve uluslararası alanda başarıyla temsil ettiği önemli bir spor dalıdır. Yıllar boyu güreş alanında birçok sporcu tarafından kayda değer başarılar elde edilmiş, buna karşın güreş sporuna bakış açısı 1970’ten itibaren negatif bir değişime uğramıştır. Ali Rıza Alan bu alanda ülkeyi temsil eden önemli bir sporcu olarak başarılarıyla güreşe yönelik olumsuz algıya meydan okumuştur. Bu bağlamda çeşitli ulusal turnuvalar, dünya şampiyonaları ve olimpiyatlarda dereceler yapan Alan; aktif sporculuk kariyerini 1980’e kadar devam ettirmiştir. Güreş sporuna hizmeti sporculukla sınırlı kalmayan Alan, faaliyetlerine 1995 yılına kadar devam etmiştir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Wrestling, Turkey’s ancestral sport, is a significant sport field that athletes represent in their countries nationally and internationally with their successes. Many athletes have achieved great success in wrestling, but the perspective on wrestling has changed negatively since 1970. As an important athlete representing the country in this field, Ali Rıza Alan has challenged his society's negative perception of wrestling with his successes. In this context, Alan, who won various national tournaments, world championships, and the Olympics, continued his active sports career until 1980. Alan, who is not limited to his service to wrestling, continued his activities regarding wrestling until 1995. | |
