dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractCoğrafi konumu bakımından çeşitli fay hatları üzerinde bulunan Türkiye, birçok deprem felaketine maruz kalmıştır. Bu deprem felaketlerinden mümkün olan en az zararla kurtulmak için ülkemizde çeşitli arama-kurtarma ekipleri görev almaktadır. Bu depremlerden biri de yurt içinden ve dışından birçok arama-kurtarma ekibinin görev aldığı 12 Kasım 1999 Düzce Depremidir. Deprem sonrasında, sivil toplum kuruluşları ve devletin diğer organlarının yanı sıra, birçok askeri birlik de depremzedelerin yardımına koşmuştur. Bu çalışmada, neredeyse sağlam binanın kalmadığı Düzce Depremi’nde, Yangın Söndürme ve Kaza-Kırım- Kurtarma Takım Komutanı Ozan Karakış’ın gazetelere manşet olmuş bir kahramanlıkla hamile Nilgün Bayram’ı kurtarma hikayesi ve sonrasında yaşananlar ele alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractLocated on various fault lines because of its geographical location, Turkey was exposed to many earthquake disaster. In order to get rid of these earthquake disasters with the least possible damage, various search and rescue teams are in charge in our country. One of these earthquakes is the 12 November 1999 Düzce Earthquake, where many search and rescue teams from inside and outside of the country take part. After the earthquake, as well as nongovernmental organizations and other organs of the state, many military units ran for the help of earthquake victims. In this study, the heroic story of rescuing Nilgün Bayram, who was pregnant, by Fire Fighting and Accident-Crime-Rescue Team Commander Ozan Karakış, in the Düzce Earthquake, where almost no sturdy building was left, is discussed.en_US
