Türkiye'nin ilk dilbilimi bölümü: Hacettepe Üniversitesi İngiliz Dilbilimi Bölümü'nün kuruluşu, işleyişi ve önemi

Başlangıcı 1930'lu yıllara dayanan dilbilimin gün geçtikçe geliştirilerek ilerlemesiyle, günümüz Türkiye'sinde akademik alanda dilbilime öncülük eden Hacettepe Üniversitesi İngiliz Dilbilimi Bölümü, 1972 yılında Sosyal ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi, İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü'ne bağlı lisans düzeyinde eğitim veren bir gece izlencesi olmaktan çıkmış, 1982 yılında Batı Dilleri ve Edebiyatları Bölümü'nün "anabilim dalı" haline gelmiş ve 1994 yılında "bölüm" olarak yapılanmıştır. Türkiye'de kurulan ilk dilbilimi bölümüdür. Günümüzde devam ettirilen ve gelecekte hayata geçirilmesi planlan tüm çalışmalara örnek niteliği teşkil etmesiyle Türkiye'de dilbilimin çalışılması konusunda büyük bir önem teşkil etmektedir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye'de dilbilimin, İngiliz dili ve edebiyatının çalışılmasına, Hacettepe Üniversitesi İngiliz Dilbilimi Bölümü'nün kuruluşuna, işleyişine ve Türkiye'de sahip olduğu öneme değinilmiştir.

Around the year 1930 when linguistics is assumed to be established, different variety of improvements were happening in the academic field of linguistics in Turkey. Hacettepe University Department of English Linguistics, who academically leads linguistics in today's Turkey, ceased to be a subprogram of the Department of English Language and Literature at Faculty of Social Administrative Sciences in 1972. With the help of the reconstruction of the higher education system by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) in 1982, the Department was reconstructed as a division of the Department of Western Languages and Literature at Faculty of Letters. Then, in 1994, it became an independent department at the same faculty. Hacettepe University Department of English Linguistics is known to be the first linguistics program in Turkey. Therefore, it is crucial in terms of advancements in the study of linguistics in Turkey. In this study, the study of linguistics as well as English language and literature, and the significance of the establishment of Hacettepe University Department of English Linguistics, the way it works and its place in Turkey was mentioned.
