dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu araştırma, Ankara'da ilk açılan süpermarket olan Gima'yı incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gima, Ankara'da açılan ilk süpermarket olmasının yanı sıra aynı zamanda Türkiye'nin de ilk ulusal süpermarket zinciriydi. Dolayısıyla Gima'nın hem Ankara hem de Türkiye için önemi araştırılmıştır. İlk olarak dünyada süpermarket olgusunun ortaya çıkışı incelenmiş, daha sonra Türkiye'deki oluşumuna ve gelişimine bakılmıştır. Daha sonra, Gima'nın kuruluşu, halk ve yerel esnaf üzerindeki sosyo-ekonomik etkisi ve Türkiye'deki gelişim süreci detaylı bir şekilde araştırılmıştır. Bunların yanısıra, Gima'nın kendi içinde yaşadığı el değiştirmeler, iflaslar ve son olarak da kapanış süreci ayrıntılı bir biçimde incelenmiştir.
dc.description.abstractThis research is made for GIMA which is the first supermarket established in Ankara. In addition, being the first supermarket opened in Ankara, Gima was also the first national supermarket chain in Turkey. Therefore, the importance of GİMA both for Ankara and Turkey was researched. Firstly, the emergence of the supermarket phenomenon in the world was examined, then its formation and development in Turkey was analyzed. Later, the foundation of Gima, its socio-economic impact on the people and local trades, and its development process in Turkey were investigated in detail. Besides, GIMA's internal changes, bankruptcy, and finally the closing process were investigated specifically.
