dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract9 Aralık 1973 tarihinde Buca belediye başkanı seçilerek siyasete giriş yapan Işılay Saygın 1983 yılında İzmir Milletvekili seçilerek çalışmalarını yurt geneline taşımıştır. çevre Bakanlığı, Turizm Bakanlığı ve Kadın ve Aileden sorumlu Devlet Bakanlığı gibi önemli görevlere getirilen Saygın özellikle Türkiye’de kadın haklarının ilerlemesi ve aile yaşantısının iyileştirilmesi alanlarında adından söz ettirmiştir. Bu alandarda birçok sosyal proje yürütmüş ve kanunların çıkarılmasına öncülük etmiştir. çıkardığı kanunlar günümüzde hala güncelliğini ve önemini korumaktadır. Siyaseti bıraktıktan sonra insanlarla gönül bağını koparmayan Saygın çeşitli kadın dernekleri ve sivil toplum kuruluşlarıyla çalışmalarına devam etmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIşılay Saygın embarked on politics, being elected as mayor of Buca municipality in 9 October 1973, and then extended her works and services to nationwide. In 1983, she was elected as deputy from İzmir Province. Serving in important positions such as minister of environment, minister of tourism and minister of state for women and family, Saygin made her name particularly, with her works for progress of women’s rights and improvement of domestic affairs in Turkey. In these fields, she conducted many social projects and introduced several laws. These laws still maintain their importance and relevance to today in Turkey. After retiring from politics she never disconnected her bond of communion with people and continued to work in cooperation with various association and civil society organizations.en_US
