dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye Metal Sanayicileri Sendikası Türkiye’de sendikalaşmanın yasallaşmasının ardından ilk kurulan ve 1959’dan beri önemini koruyan işveren sendikalarından biridir. Kurulduğu günden beri sahip olduğu etkinlik seviyesi ve öngörülen ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda dönemsel olarak çeşitli hedefleri olmuştur. Sadece bünyesindeki şirketleri değil aynı zamanda işçi haklarını da gözetmesi ilkesi MESS’i birçok işveren sendikasından farklı kılmıştır. Dönemsel olarak çeşitli grev ve benzeri işçi hareketlerinin çözümlenmesinde etkin roller oynayarak metal sanayisindeki iş hayatını belirleyici olmuştur. Amaçlarını gerçekleştirebilmek adına başka sendikalarla ve hem ulusal hem de uluslararası sendikal kuruluşlarla ilişkilerini geliştirmeye çalışmıştır. Sendikal görevlerini yerine getiren MESS, ayrıca bünyesindeki şirketlere ve çalışanlarına eğitimler sunarak yeni nesil sendikacılık düşüncesini uyarlamaya çalışmaktadır. Bu araştırmada MESS’in dönemsel olarak gerçekleştirmeye çalıştığı amaçlar ve bu doğrultuda yaptıkları çalışmalar, siyasi olaylarla etkileşimleri, çözümlenmeye çalışılan önemli grevler ve çeşitli kurumlarla ilişkileri incelenmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractTurkish Employers Association of Metal Industries is one of the first employer associations that still maintains its importance since 1959. Since the foundation, the association had different goals considering its' effectivity and requirements. MESS's principle of securing not only the rights of corporate associates but also the laborers' rights make it distinct from most associations. It also became a determinant factor by claiming influential roles to settle the strikes and trade union activities at different times. To accomplish its goals, MESS developed strong relationships with other employer and trade associations and both local and global institutions. After completing its goals as a association, MESS adopted the idea of new ii generation unionism and started providing lectures to the individuals that are working for the associations’ members. In this study MESS’s purposes and its studies at different times, interactions with political changes, actions taken for some crucial strikes, relationships and educational moves is explained.en_US
