dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractGenetik biliminde, 19. yüzyıldan günümüze kadar birçok deha kendini göstermiştir. Dünyada genetik üzerine çalışmalarda bulunmuş bilim adamlarından Tayfun Özçelik, bu dehalardan biridir. Bu araştırmada Tayfun Özçelik'in yayınladığı makalelerden, hakkında çıkan gazete haberlerinden, kendisi ve doktora sonrası asistanı ile yapılan ropörtajlardan elde edilen bilgilerden yararlanılarak özel hayatı, akademik hayatı ve başarıları anlatılmıştır. Tayfun Özçelik'in, öğrencilik döneminde ve mezuniyetinden sonra yaptığı araştırmalar sonucu bulduğu birçok bilimsel bilgi, ünlü bilim insanlarının araştırmalarına ışık tutmuştur. Tayfun Özçelik, Türkiye'deki genetik alanındaki çalışmalar için de örnek bir kişilik teşkil etmektedir. 1995 yılından beri Bilkent Üniversitesi'de Moleküler Biyoloji ve Genetik Bölümü'nde öğretim üyesi olarak çalışmakta olan Tayfun Özçelik aynı zamanda Bilkent Üniversitesi Fen Fakültesi dekanlığı görevini üstlenmektedir.
dc.description.abstractIn genetics, lots of knowledgeable people has risen up until 19th century. Tayfun Özçelik is one of these knowledgeable people who has had, and still has, a great impact on genetics. In this research we investigated his personal and academic life, followed by his achievements which are explained by using the articles published by himself, news about him, and our interviews with him and his postdoctoral assistant. He found many scientific information as a result of his researches, which shed light upon researches of many famous scientists. Tayfun can truly be seen as a role model to many young scientists in Turkey. Özçelik has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent University since 1995. At the same time, he is also the Dean of the Faculty of Science at Bilkent University.
