dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarihinde kadının eğitim ve bilimdeki yeri incelendi. Araştırma çeşitli zaman dilimlerine ayrıldı, her birinde kadının hak ve özgürlük durumu işlendi. Türkiye'deki ilk kadın bilim insanlarından Aytaç Yaşlı'nın hayatı ele alındı, okuduğu okullar ve eğitim aldığı akademisyenler, kendi sosyal çevresi ile incelenerek erken Türkiye tarihine kadın gözünden ışık tutulup; kadınların 1940-1980 yılları arasında Türk bilimindeki yeri araştırıldı.
dc.description.abstractThe role of women in both education and science in the early history of the Republic of Turkey have been examined in this work. The research on the topic has been sectioned into time frames with the intent of explaining the status of the women's rights and their freedoms regarding their respective decades. One of the first female scientists of Turkey, Aytaç Yaşlı's personal and academic life and the tutors that influenced her have been examined in order to shed a light on the women's place in the Turkish scientific circles between the years of 1940- 1980.
