Koç Özel Lisesi’nin kuruluşu ve Türk eğitimindeki yeri

Abstract

Vehbi Koç Vakfı Koç Özel Lisesi 1988 yılında kurulmuştur. Suna Kıraç ve Vehbi Koç’un destekleriyle kurulan okulun, yabancı dilde eğitim sunan bir Türk okulu olması amaçlanmıştır. 1994 yılında Uluslararası Bakalorya programının uygulanmaya başlanmasıyla bu programı Türkiye’ye tanıtan kurum olmuştur. Bu araştırmada Vehbi Koç Vakfı Koç Özel Lisesinin kuruluş dönemi incelenmiştir. Çalışmada Suna Kıraç’ın anılarından, kuruluş hakkında dönemin gazete haberlerinden ve kurumun kuruluşunun 20. yılının anısına basılmış bir kitaptan yararlanılmıştır. Ayrıca araştırma sırasında okulun günümüz müdürü ve mezunlar derneği başkanıyla röportaj yapılmıştır. Röportaj sırasında okulun ilk yıllarında idari ve akademik kadronun kuruluşuna ve okulun eğitim sisteminin öğrencilere kültürel etkisine değinilmiştir. Bu çalışmayla Koç Özel Lisesinin kuruluşunun ve Türk eğitim sistemine getirdiği yeniliklerin daha iyi anlaşılması amaçlanmıştır.

Vehbi Koç Vakfı Koç Özel Lisesi (The Koç School) is a private high school under the Turkish National Ministry of Education, being established in 1988. The school, which was established with the support of Suna Kıraç and Vehbi Koç, was aimed to be a Turkish high school providing a bilingual education to its students. The school introduced the International Baccalaureate program to Turkey with the program starting to be applied in 1994. The Koç School’s establishment period has been examined in this study. The memorials of Suna Kıraç, contemporary newspaper articles and a book released to celebrate the 20th year of the school’s founding were used during the research process. Interviews with the school’s current principal and the head of the alumni association were also conducted during the process. The school’s administrative and academic personnel selection process and the school’s education system’s cultural impact were among the topics discussed in the mentioned interviews. The aim of this study is to provide a better understanding of the Koç School’s founding and the innovations it introduced to the Turkish curriculum.
