dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract15-16 Haziran 1970 Olayları merkez olarak İstanbul’da gerçekleşen, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin o zamana kadar tanık olduğu en büyük işçi hareketlerinden biridir. Sebepleri ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal olmakla birlikte sonuçları itibariyle işçi sınıfının haklarının ve güçlerinin farkına vardığı bir süreçtir. Türkiye tarihinin ilk askeri darbesiyle başlayan 1960’lı yıllar sosyal olarak sendika-işçi ve patron çatışmalarının başladığı, ekonomik sorunların yaşandığı istikrarsız bir dönemdir. 274 sayılı Sendikalar Kanunu ve 275 sayılı Toplu İş Sözleşmesi, Grev ve Lokavt Kanunu üzerinde yapılmak istenen değişikliklerin gündeme gelmesi ise işçiler ve sendikalar için kabul edilemez görülmüş ve olayların fitilini ateşlemiştir. O dönem bir fabrikada memur olan Vahit Tulis ve bir başka fabrikada işçi olan Yunus Uysal olaylara katılıp aktif roller oynamışlardır. Tulis ve Uysal’ın hayatlarını ve olaylar çerçevesinde yaşadıklarını araştırmak, 15-16 Haziran Olayları’nı kavrama ve işçi sınıfı açısından önemini anlama yolunda çalışmaya büyük bir fayda sağlamıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe movement of 15-16 June 1970, which took place in Istanbul as its headquarters, is one of the largest workers' movements that the Republic of Turkey has ever witnessed. Although it is caused by different economical, political and social factors, ultimately it is a process in which the working class becomes aware of its rights and powers. The 1960s, which started with the first military coup in the history of Turkey, was an unstable period in which social conflicts between unions, workers and bosses began, and economic problems were experienced. The tipping point for the workers to start the movement was the changes, deemed unacceptable, that were intended to be made to the Law on Trade Unions No. 274 and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Strike and Lockout Law No. 275. Studying Tulis and Uysal's lives and their experiences within the framework of the events was beneficial in comprehending the movement of 15-16 June and to understand its importance for the working class.en_US
