Abstract

Ayten Gökakın was born in the 20th century republican period in Turkey. She was among limited number of women who graduated from university at that time. Afterwards, she honoured herself by being an advocate and lately the first woman notary of Ankara. She broke the public norms where women is only supposed to take care of her family and do not contribute to the country’s economy as an active member of the work-life. And while exceeding the limits imposed by the social roles, she also looked after her family and showed people that having a family cannot be an excuse when the issue is to develop oneself. She was such an influential person as a republican woman.
