dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractSinsin, UNESCO'nun koruma kapsamı altına aldığı, Türkiye'nin kültürel miras değerleri niteliğindeki halk oyunlarından biridir. Ankara'nın Güdül ilçesinde ateş etrafında davul ve zurna eşliğinde oynanan sinsin, Türkiye'de pek çok yörede görülmekle beraber bu ilçede 28 ve 29 Ekim'de Cumhuriyet bayramı kutlaması olarak varlığını sürdürmektedir. Zaman içerisinde sinsin oyunu Türkiye'de düğün, asker uğurlaması, kına gibi farklı amaçlara hizmet etmiş olsa da her türünde ateş, müzik, dans gibi ortak ögeler bulunmaktadır. Böylelikle sinsin geleneği, yöreleri ve yöre halkını birbirine bağlayıcı niteliğe sahiptir.
dc.description.abstractSinsin, is one of the folk dances, qualified as Turkey's cultural heritage values that are under the protection of UNESCO. In Güdül, district of Ankara, sinsin is played around the fire accompanied with drums and flutes on October 28th and 29th as a celebration of Independence Day. Yet, it occurs in many different regions of Turkey and maintains its presence as various kinds of ceremonies such as wedding, military sendoff, henna night. Apart from this, there are some common elements such as fire, music and dance. Thereby, the tradition sinsin, has a binding nature for the regions and locals.
