Tarihi boyunca farklı toplumların eserlerini yaşatan Türkiye, tarihi eser kaçakçılığıyla her zaman karşı karşıya kalmıştır.
Turkey, which has hosted many ancient civilizations' artifacts throughout the history, also has lived through many historical artifact smugglings. But since these cultural values gained importance especially after early Republican period, oversea smugglings have increased significantly. On the other hand, the newly established Republic of Turkey has gone through smugglings because of the economic concerns and the unawareness about values. Also, with the perceptions of alienation, centuries-old artifacts have been destroyed. In this research, the Pieces of the Perge Heracles Tomb, which are the best examples for these smugglings, were studied. By being the subject of first destruction and then smugglings, the pieces of the tomb can be seen as a summary of Turkey's historical artifact smugglings.
