dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu makalede, 1960’lı yıllarda Türkiye’de ilk televizyon yayınını yapan ilk kadın spiker Nuran Devres’in kariyer yolculuğu ve cinsiyet faktörünün mesleki deneyimlerine etkisi ele alınarak kadın spikerlerin medya sektöründe dönemsel olarak yaşadığı zorluklar incelenmiştir. Dönemsel süreçte cinsiyet faktörünün spikerlik mesleğindeki yeri incelenmeden önce, dünyada ve Türkiye’de yayıncılık sektörünün gelişiminden ve spikerlik mesleği özelinde dönemsel olarak kadınların rollerinden bahsedilmiştir. Medya ve spikerlik mesleği hakkında genel bilgiler verilmesinin ardından kadınların spikerlik mesleğinde yaşadıkları zorlukların arkasında bulunan, medya sektöründe yer almalarına karşı bir tutum sergileyen toplumsal bakış açıları incelenerek geçmişten günümüze cinsiyet faktörünün yarattığı eşitsizlik ve haksız rekabet ortamları ele alınmıştır. Zaman içerisinde kadın spikerlere karşı toplumsal bakış açısının değişimi anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. Farklı dönemlerde spikerlik yapmış kadın ve erkek spikerlerle yapılan röportajlar ile spikerlik mesleği ve cinsiyet kavramlarının entegrasyonu, sektörün içerisinde yer alan birinci kişiler tarafından aktarılan deneyimler ile desteklendirilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis article mainly focuses on the career journey of Nuran Devres, the first announcer on TV in Turkish history and the difficulties she faced in several crossroads in her career and aims to examine the adversities faced by women in the media sector in different eras of Turkish history. Before constructing the analysis, general information about the history of media in Turkey and in various regions of the world, which contain initiatory events and figures in the media sector is given and roles of women in the history of Turkish media are mentioned. Following inclusive information, the perspective of the society towards women in the media sector and precisely women as announcers on TV are investigated to handle the unequal standards for women as announcers and to mention the substantial, unfair competitive working environments that brought forth challenges for women in the sector. The changes in the perspective of the society towards women as announcers are intended to be depicted. The sentiments and the integration of gender and announcers are further supported by the experiences quoted by announcers from different genders and from different eras, which are obtained by several interviews.en_US
