dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAnkara Stad Oteli, mimarisi, konumu ve tarihi yapısı nedeniyle Ankara'nın en önemli yapılarından biridir. Doğan Tekeli, Sami Sisa ve Metin Hepgüler’in mimarı olduğu, 1969 yılında inşa edilen bu otel, Ankara’nın şehir merkezinde yer almaktadır ve brütalist bir yapıdır. Otel, Ulus'un tarihi ve kültürel kimliğinin bir parçasıdır ve geçmişten günümüze zengin bir tarihe sahiptir. Oteli çevreleyen tarihi ve kültürel anıtlar, Ankara'nın zengin mirasını yansıtan temel unsurlardır. Ankara Gençlik Parkı, Ankara Sarayı, I. TBMM Binası, Ulus Heykeli, Pul Müzesi ve tarihi banka binası gibi yapılar otele yakındır. Bu yapılar Ulus'un tarihi yapısının bir parçasıdır ve Ankara Stad Oteli bu yapının merkezinde yer almaktadır. Stad Oteli, aynı zamanda brütalist mimarinin Türkiye’deki ilk örneklerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Otelin dışarıdan da görünen betonarme perdeleri yapının strüktürünü oluşturmakta ve bu da yapıyı brütalist kılmaktadır. Çarpıcı tasarımıyla bu otel, 1960'larda ve 1970'lerde Ankara'nın en yüksek binalarından da biriydi. Otel, kısa sürede birçok etkinliğin mekânı ve sosyal yaşamın merkezi haline geldi. “Köyden İndim Şehire” gibi ünlü filmlerin çekildiği bu otelde, misafirlerine rahat bir deneyim yaşatmak için birçok birim bulunmaktadır. Bu birimlerin ayrı tasarımları da otelin kentle bütünleşmesini sağlamış ve onu özgün kılmıştır. Günümüzde ise Stad Oteli artık Radisson Blu Hotel Ankara olarak faaliyet göstermektedir. Otel, Radisson Hotel Group'a aittir. Otelin çevresindeki restorasyon ve iç dekorasyon, otelin dış cephesini modernize etmiştir ancak otelin dış cephesi orijinal görünümünü korumuştur. Otel, tarihî ve kültürel mirasını korumaktadır ve Ankara'da önemli bir turistik cazibe merkezi olmaya devam etmektedir.
dc.description.abstractBecause of its architecture, location, and historical importance, Ankara Stad Hotel is one of the most important structures in Ankara. The hotel was built in 1969; designed by Doğan Tekeli, Sami Sisa, and Metin Hepgüler at the city center of Ankara with Brutalist architecture. The hotel has a unique place in the history and culture of Ulus and, to this day, has a rich history. Historical and cultural structures surrounding the hotel reflect the rich legacy of Ankara. Ankara Gençlik Parkı, Ankara Sarayı, I. TBMM building, Ulus Statue, Stamp Museum, and the historical Bank Building are crucial structures surrounding the hotel. These structures are part of the history of Ulus, and Ankara Stad Hotel is at the center of these structures. Stad Hotel is considered one of the first brutalist Architectures in Turkey. The reinforced concrete curtains of the hotel, which can be seen from the outside, form the structure of the building, and this makes the building brutalist. With its stunning design, in the 1960s and 1970s, it was one of the tallest buildings in Ankara. In a short time, the hotel became a center for entertainment and social life in the city. This hotel has numerous units where famous films such as "Köyden İndim Şehire" were shot to provide a comfortable experience for its guests. These units’ designs made the hotel more integrated into the city and unique. Today Stad Hotel is operating as Radisson Blu Hotel Ankara. The hotel now belongs to the Radisson Hotel Group. Restoration of the hotel has made the exterior more modern while keeping its original looks. The hotel maintains its historical and cultural heritage and remains a tourist attraction center.
